In a nutshell: Hawaii will play Loyola Marymount today in the Warriors’ first of four games at the UNLV Rebel Classic in Las Vegas. Sophomore Scott Squier (0-1, 1.54 ERA) will start for UH. The teams last met two years ago, splitting a two-game series. … The Warriors were shut out for the third time this season in a 5-0 loss to Rice on Monday. Quintin Torres-Costa (0-2), a 2012 Waiakea graduate, suffered the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Torres-Costa did line a single to right in his first at-bat of the season. … UH has averaged just 2.1 runs per game . … Junior outfielder Adam Hurley leads the team in batting (.296), hits (eight), RBIs (three) and total bases (nine).

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Record: 16-11 overall, 9-6 Big West (tied for third with UC-Irvine)
In a nutshell: The Warriors will play their final two home games of the season this week before closing the 2012-13 campaign at Cal State Northridge on March 7. With a victory against UC-Santa Barbara today, UH can clinch its first winning league record since the 2005-06 team went 10-6 in the WAC. … The Warriors beat the Gauchos (8-18, 4-10) 78-73 in the season’s first meeting between the teams on Jan. 26 in Santa Barbara, Calif. UH leads the all-time series 5-4 and has won seven of its past eight home games. … Vander Joaquim’s 20 points and 10 rebounds in an 84-50 win over Northern Arizona on Saturday gave him his 10th double-double of the season. Joaquim also moved into 10th place on Hawaii’s all-time scoring list with 1,138 points. … Junior forward Christian Standhardinger, who scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Northern Arizona, has averaged 19.9 points and 10.1 rebounds in his past eight games. Senior guard Hauns Brereton has averaged 13.9 points during the same stretch.

In a nutshell: No. 11 Hawaii went 1-3 on a recent road trip, dropping two matches to top-ranked UC-Irvine and splitting a two-match set with UCLA. The Warriors played two five-set matches, beating the Bruins in Los Angeles on Feb. 16 before falling to the top-ranked Anteaters two days later. … Hawaii has already set a school record for five-set matches in a season with nine. The Warriors are is 4-5 in those matches. … Hawaii’s eight MPSF losses have come at the hands of the nation’s top six teams in the AVCA top 15 coaches poll.

SOFTBALL
Thursday: Hawaii 5, Memphis 1: Kaia Parnaby pitched a complete-game five-hitter while Leisha Liilii and Kayla Wartner hit solo home runs in Honolulu as the 20th-ranked Rainbow Wahine, playing for the first time in 10 days, improved to 9-4.
Parnaby, who struck out seven and walked two, ran her record to 7-2.
Liilii’s home run, her first of the season, gave UH a 1-0 lead in the second, and Wartner’s fifth home run in the fifth inning made it 3-1.
Keiki Carlos and Jessica Iwata both went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Hawaii.
Ellen Roberts went the distance in the circle for Memphis (5-9), allowing four earned runs on seven hits. She struck out nine but walked seven.

In a nutshell: UH will conclude the regular season with three home games, starting with Cal State Northridge on Saturday. The Rainbow Wahine beat the Matadors 65-53 in the previous meeting between the teams this season. Junior Vicky Tagalicod, a Hilo High graduate, scored 10 points in the game. … UH comes off a 47-43 loss at Cal Poly on Feb. 23 in which the Rainbow Wahine erased a 13-point halftime deficit before falling short. Junior forward Kamilah Martin (15.1 points per game) became the second women’s basketball player to amass 900 rebounds.
